Our 2019 African Youth Capacity Building Workshop
Our Current and Upcoming GHYBN Projects:
For the next 6 months, the following activities are planned for in 2020 to better strengthen and build a strong youth movement for biodiversity for the decade 2021-2030:

Post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework consultation (30-31 March, 2020)

Capacity building for youth groups and chapter members (4 April, 2020 in Accra)

The Chapter will collaborate with existing youth groups including Youth Employment Network, Africa Youth Initiative on Climate Change, and Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network for training and capacity building and opportunity for more consultations. (Ongoing, countrywide)

Biodiversity Youth Conference: all campus chapters will be brought together and it will be dedicated to education and awareness creation as well as to collect more input for the Post-2020 GBF (22-26 June, 2020 in Accra)

Creation of two more school chapters with supplemental environmental clubs in the first and second circle institutions (30 June, 2020)
Our Past Projects:

Participation in the finalization of Ghana’s National Biodiversity Policy Draft (30th July 2019)

Successfully created 2 campus chapters of GYBN that mobilised the youth for biodiversity actions, and prepared them for the official launch of the National Chapter. (August 2018 at the University of Cape Coast and June 2019 at the University of Development Studies)

Collaborated with Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) to celebrate National Biodiversity Day (22nd May 2019)

Youth in climate change and biodiversity: To promote synergy between the Rio Conventions, the coordinating team partnered with the UNFCCC Youth Constituency (YOUNGO) representatives to raise awareness on climate change and biodiversity conservation where we explore the interlinkages between climate, nature and people (27th February 2019)

Participated and contributed to the review and validation of Ghana’s 6th National Biodiversity Report (27th & 28th December 2018)

Inception meeting with National CBD Focal point on GYBN: Following the GYBN Africa Regional Workshop held in South Africa in August 2017, an inception meeting with the focal Ministry of CBD with the Focal Point in attendance was held to brief them about the outcome of the workshop and the task to establish a national Chapter (15th Sept, 2017)
