Post-2020: The role of young people with a gender perspective

In 2020, the Convention on Biological Diversity will adopt the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, at the next COP15 in China, as a tool towards its 2050 vision of "Living in harmony with nature", based on its decision 14/34, where The Conference of the Parties adopted a comprehensive and participatory process for the preparation of said Framework, taking into account that the year 2020 marks the final date of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the 20 global biodiversity goals, Aichi Targets.

This Post 2020 Framework should be accompanied by an inspiring mission for 2030 as an intermediate step towards the 2050 vision of “living in harmony with nature”, in order to generate synergies with low-emission and climate-resilient climate action, as well as to strengthen the climate ambition proposed in the National Contributions of each country that is part of the Paris Agreement.

However, this process will have a gender perspective, systematically incorporating it and guaranteeing an appropriate representation, especially of women and girls. It should be noted that during the development of the Regional Consultations, the Conference of the Parties specifically requested the Executive Secretary to include discussions on the links between gender and biodiversity according to the lessons learned in the implementation of the 2015-2050 Gender Action Plan.
