Our 2019 LAC Youth Capacity Building Workshop

Our Current and Upcoming GYBN Colombia Projects:

Currently, GYBN Colombia is producing the results of the Post-2020 Biodiversity Global Framework Consultancy that was conducted on August 29th in Pasto. The main goal was to introduce and support the global youth declaration created by GYBN that will be presented at COP-15 in China. Additionally, the Consultancy was held to gather youth perspectives about biodiversity loss in Colombia in order to push Colombian governmental institutions to be increasingly more committed to protect the ecosystems in the country. This declaration is the first step to making the initiatives of GYBN Colombia visible on both the national and international levels and serves to strengthen the current regional efforts.

Our Past Projects:

GYBN Colombia was invited to take part in the Youth Summit Nariño 2030 event developed by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Nariño Government to inspire youth to achieve the 2030 Agenda on biodiversity and nature conservation in their communities (August 30, 2019).

  • The GYBN Colombian Chapter was launched with the support of WWF Colombia and the Environmental Secretary of the Nariño Government in Pasto, where 50 young people gathered together to learn about the CBD processes, Aichi Targets and the work that GYBN conducts. This national event allowed many of the participants to share about their professional experiences related to biodiversity and allowed GYBN Colombia to conduct a national consultancy about the Post-2020 Biodiversity Global Framework with many young people and NGOs from all over Colombia, cultivating in a collaborative vision that the youth in Colombia have for biodiversity in the country over the next 20 - 30 years (August 29, 2019).

  • Contribution to the document: "National Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services with IPBES methodology" (2019).

  • National Conversation with Colombian environmental NGOs to public environmental policy related on protected areas, climate change, agriculture and fishering.

  • Participation of the COY-15 and COP-25 in Madrid, (2019).
