NBSAP?

At COP15 the parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity reached the consensus on the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) - or "The Biodiversity Plan". Among other aspects, the countries agreed on 4 goals and 23 Targets to reach the 2050 Vision of living in harmony with nature and the 2030 Mission:

"To take urgent action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss to put nature on a path to recovery for the benefit of people and planet by conserving and sustainably using biodiversity and by ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of genetic resources, while providing the necessary means of implementation."

In order to make those global goals realistic, countries are currently "translating" the global targets into their national context and updating their National Biodiversity Action and Strategy Plans (NBSAPs).

European Youth Perspective

When countries review their national targets to formulate their NBSAPs, GYBN worldwide tries to bring in the voice of the youth. The positions are based on past consultations leading to the GBF, some agreed key principles and, if time allows, further consultation on the concrete text proposal.

Germany

During summer 2023, GYBN Europe joined forces with other German youth organisations and participated in a virtual consultation. During the public consultation, our youth coalition also drafted a position paper.

Partner: BUNDjugend, NAJU, Deutscher Jugendbund für Naturbeobachtung, Naturfrendejugend Deutschlands, WWF Jugend, WWF Jugendrat and several German Youth Delegates of COP15

France

The GYBN France chapter got involved during the general consultation about the NBSAP and provided inputs both for the Targets specifically and for the summary document.
